BIAHC Engages in Cultural Facilities Planning
The Cultural Element of the City's Comprehensive Plan charged BIAHC with the responsibility of exploring and responding to the issue of cultural facilities development. The first step led, in 2003, to a Cultural Facilities Needs Assessment (Download Needs Assessment >> ) and an inventory of existing cultural spaces. The inventory lists 55 Island properties that offer space for community meetings, performances, events, exhibitions or classes, along with rental fees and policies. ( Download Facilities Inventory >>).
In 2005-06, a feasibility study led by consultant AMS looked at the need for a Community Cultural Center and proposed a site in a "Cultural Corridor" or "Civic Campus" near City Hall.
