Media literacy! Media ownership! Media generations! We live in
a media ocean where consciousness is being altered almost beyond
our awareness and control. Are there ways we can meet this onslaught
with a positive understanding of its influence? And possibly transform
it as much as it is transforming us?
What can we do here on Bainbridge Island to create ways to transform
media into a positive power for social changes rather than a negative
force for weakening the social fabric?
Come and explore this media sea through an intergenerational dialogue,
Media Matters: A Conversation with Youth and Adults on Living in
a Media World, at the Bainbridge Commons, 402 Brien Drive, on March
20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free, with refreshments provided.

Sponsored by Bainbridge Island Broadcasting and Imagine Bainbridge,
the event is part of the Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities
Council’s 2004 Humanities Inquiry, Breaking News: The State
of Today’s Information Media. The inquiry, which takes place
throughout March and early April, is a series of events and conversations
on the role, responsibilities, and impact of today’s news
media.
Breaking News is co-presented by The Washington News Council, a
Seattle-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to help maintain
public trust and confidence in the news media. The program is funded
in part by a grant from Humanities Washington, a state-wide non-profit
organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities
and local contributors.
